Garry Purves
I was born and raised in the Peace River Country in Northwestern Alberta, where agriculture is woven into the fabric of everyday life. Growing up in the region gave me a deep appreciation for the farming community. I worked for the Alberta Wheat Pool for 19 years, managing grain elevators in 7 farming communities. Those years taught me the importance of strong relationships, honest communication, and dependable service.
In 1998, I helped form Westcan Feed & Grain to give farmers more options and better support when marketing their feed grain and any damaged or off‑grade grain they were dealing with. Over the years, Westcan has grown into a trusted partner for producers across Western Canada, known for fair pricing and prompt service.
In my 47 years in the grain buying industry, I take great pride in the relationships built and the service provided to farmers throughout the Prairies and British Columbia. My commitment has always been to offer reliable, straightforward support and to help producers find value in every crop. I have worked alongside the farming community for nearly five decades, and I remain dedicated to serving them with integrity and respect.
I grew up on a family grain farm in Wanham, Alberta, where working alongside my father for more than 18 years taught me the value of perseverance, stewardship, and respect for the land.
My bloodline runs deep in the grain industry. My grandfather, Stewart, served as a grain buyer for the Alberta Wheat Pool in Wanham. With three generations rooted in agriculture, the grain business has always felt like a natural part of who I am.
Along with my firsthand farming experience, I bring 15 years in the customer service industry, where I developed a strong commitment to communication, responsiveness, and building genuine relationships. I take pride in connecting with people and delivering quick, effective service—values that guide me every day in my work with producers across the region.
